It’s not been my favourite summer, the weather systems have been from a northerly direction, with only the odd south westerly. The result is we’ve had a long hot dry spell, with hardly any rain. The first significant rain fell last week and the lake came up 4”.

Lots of sun over the summer has encouraged the weed to grow. We treated the weed in the spring of last year, the product we used worked well and is very safe for fish, We didn’t use it this spring because we were told to expect 2-3 years control.
From now on we’ll treat it every spring. Too much weed isn’t good for the fish, it isn’t good for the fishermen, and it isn’t good for my back.
Overall, fishing conditions haven’t been great over the summer – too many high pressure systems. But the fish still get caught and most groups have caught well.
James Burke on the lake last week banked two 50lb mirrors, both fish on Odyessy xxx. David Sheen’s group had a good week with 38 fish for their week with 18 + 30’s.
Koki, Lee and Simon (3 regulars who know their way around a lake) had 42 fish including mirrors of 48lb, 47lb, 47lb, 46lb and 44lb. Most fish falling to maize or tigers or both together.
Now the rains have come the outlook looks good for the rest of the season. The fish should be getting their heads down to bulk up for the winter.
